March is almost over, and Spring has just begun.
Sounds like a perfect time to be dreaming. Something about Spring Time is so inspiring.
I woke up the other day to my audio book of Ecclesiastes playing, and the verse spoken spoke to me:
"Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun" (Ecc. 11:7).
Something about sunshine and rain drops, flowers, and birds singing, is so romantic, causing our hearts to come alive. It tells us something about God. God is a dreamer. He aspires great things and they actually happen. And He has placed dreams in our hearts. Dreams that were meant to come to pass.
My favorite prayer these days has been 1 Thessalonians 1:11-
"...we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith."
By "make you worthy" he means "prepared." Think of it as having the "character to handle." God has called a lot of people to great things, but they receive the grace of God in vain (2 Corinth. 6:1). I want to be worthy, ready to receive, all the good things God has dreamed for me. And I want His power touching my life and circumstances so that the dreams He has placed inside of me come to pass.
We dream, we write, we create, we have passions, we aspire, because we were made in God's image. It's time to dream again if you have let your dreams die. Let the "should haves" of yesterday fall away because they are dead weight. It's a new day. You're a new you. And it is time to Dream!

Fighting Covetousness
I. Fight. Covetousness.
In our culture struggling with covetousness has a little less sting than saying, "I struggle with lust or immorality." However they are both equally, life-threatening, cancerous sins, we must wage war against. I know I have to put it to death daily because I come by it naturally.
Jesus tells us, we can not serve two masters (Matt 6). He then He gives us a key that frees us from the tyranny of the love of money and the anxiety that accompanies it:
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Therefore I tell you, do not worry...saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matt 6:24-33
We fight covetousness by knowing God. Your heavenly Father knows what you need. According to Matthew 6 those who do not know God eagerly seek after the things they can see (what they will eat, drink, wear). But those who know God aren't consumed or anxiously driven by these things. Rather, they seek first God's kingdom and righteousness, and these earthly things are added to them. Where is your heart today? Are you anxious, bothered about many things? Seek first His kingdom! Sin is what we do when we are bored with God. Covetous is where we reside when we lose our contentment in God (Heb 13:5). A heart that is satisfied in God, with their treasure in heaven, is a sure way to fight covetousness. Join the fight with me! Go after the knowledge of God and set your mind on things above.

Paul calls covetousness idolatry. Col 3:5-"Put to death what is earthly in you: immorality..& covetousness which is idolatry." God knew I had an idolatrous (divided) heart when He chose me. That is why He gave His life for me! Everyone has an idolatrous heart. We were born with it and come by it naturally (Ps 51:5-For I was born a sinner--yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.). Two of the Ten Commandments (the first and last) speak on the issue of covetousness: 1. You shall have no other gods before Me. 10. You shall not covet. The Ten Commandments serve as a tutor to show us our need for a Savior (Gal 3:24). Covetousness is idolatry, and we must "put it to death." We can agree with the grace of God to be set free from it! Here's how:

Truth Breeds Gratitude
As our hearts and minds grow in the understanding of what Christ has saved us from, we are filled with undeniable gratitude for the mercies of God. When we receive clarity from the Bible concerning what is true of everyone who is apart from Christ, we are filled with compassion and urgency to share the Gospel (Good News).
The Bible says those who are not in Christ, are alienated from God and enemies in their mind. "Good people" and "bad people" alike, who have not put their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, are alienated from God and enemies in their mind. These are strong words, and they may even bring up offense in your heart. I encourage you talk to the Lord about this.But, there's great news...

Those who have not given their lives to Christ (put their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation/reconciliation with God) are subject to the wrath of God (Eph 2). This is why Jesus became a curse for us, so that He would bear our penalty in His body for our sins. There is a penalty for sin (Rom 6:23). Either you let Christ bear your penalty (through the cross), or you will be responsible to bear it. Praise God, for those who are currently alienated from God, as we were, awaits the opportunity to be reconciled to God through faith in Jesus Christ. Through faith in Jesus we become holy, blameless, and above reproach.

Prayer: God, show us what You saved us from and what You saved us unto. Please give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation. Let us with tenderness share the Gospel with others, bearing witness that though we too were your enemies, You made a way for us to be made right with God through faith in Your Son Jesus. Amen.

The Tenderness of our God
Psalm 18:35- You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great. (NKJV)
Psalm 18:35-...Your humility exalts me. (HCSB)
Jesus, speaking of Himself, calls Himself "gentle and humble" (Matthew 11:29). Do you know that God? Do you know the One who is gentle, the God who is humble?
The Genesis 1 God who made everything is gentle. Do you know the "high and lofty one who lives in eternity" (Isa 57:15) is tender with me, with you?
The more we meditate on and speak of the tenderness of God, the more gentle we will become. God relates to us in tenderness, so we can relate to ourselves and others in the same manner. Does He correct us? Absolutely. It is His humility in all His dealings with us that empowers us, not harshness. We are harsh with others, because deep down we are hard on ourselves. For me, usually the area I am most annoyed at another in, is the same area I am needing or wanting breakthrough.
I find myself often surrounded by harsh words, whether from our culture, the accuser, or broken thinking: "You haven't gotten better in that yet?;" "You can't be happy until you have/look/do this;" "Loser." But there has never been a time God has not loved me. He likes being around me. God enjoys my company, and He likes the sound of my voice. He loves when I draw near to Him, and when I stand on His promise that He won't ever forsake me. Negative self-talk, thoughts, and harsh words have lost power over my mind and emotions as I began to ruminate on God's thoughts toward me. It's a daily battle, but I'm winning.
Precious are your thoughts about me, O God...I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand. (Ps 139:17-18 NLT)
Begin or recommit today to Thank God and Speak back to Him His precious thoughts toward you. Thank Him for being gentle and humble. If you need a starting place start with Psalm 139, and speak back to God (& over yourself) how He feels about you. Grace!

Discovering a Person, Love, & the Joys of International Cooking
It matters to God that we know how much He loves us.
"I need you to know who you are in My eyes" I hear the Spirit say often.
God finds it needful and important that we would know the depth, height, expansiveness, and weightiness of His love.
"I need you to know I am proud of you."
I love the Holy Spirit and how uniquely and personally He speaks to all of us. Every word God speaks is profound. He knows how to speak your language. The language of your heart. When we read the Bible, both Old and New Testament, we see Abba (Hebrew name for Daddy), God, Jesus (who is the Eternal Father in the flesh, Isa. 9:6) does not relate to anyone in the same manner.
We see God is personal. Think on how He spoke with Hagar (she needed to know God sees), how He came to plead with Cain (sin is crouching at your door), and He knew Sarah's unbelief (Why did you laugh?). We see amidst the disciples, Jesus spoke to Nathaniel differently than Phillip, and related to Thomas different than John. Why? Because we are all different in the way we process, and what we believe in our heads versus what we know to be true in our hearts. God knows the language of our souls, and He knows how to meet us. We must believe this.
In my own life I am being undone again by the Tenderness and Unwavering Compassion of God. It is tenderizing and softening the jaded, hard, disillusioned me. The unbelieving me. The questions I'm scared to ask, and don't even know I believe. The statement, I need you to know who you are in My eyes implies, you don't know. But it also an invitation that carries the promise that I will know. Because He is a good Father, if God highlights something (eg, love Me w/ all your heart; flee temptation; abide in My love) He also gives the power or grace to do/receive it. I will increase in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, I will know how much He loves me, who I am in His eyes, and how I make Him so very happy and proud. Make this your decree as well.
.....I intended this to be an article on my thoughts and gratitude that has been arising as I have been enjoying making foods from various cultures around the world. But, because I am one for brevity, that will be my next article. Stay tuned for a goodie...

Ministry Trip to Cuernavaca, Mexico
Happy New Year!!
Jesus said, The Harvest is Great Therefore PRAY...(Matt 9:37-38)
Jesus also said, GO therefore and preach... (Matt. 28:18-20)
Jesus saw the multitudes and was moved with compassion. His answer to the great need? PRAY! the Lord of the Harvest send out laborers. After His Resurrection, before His ascension, Jesus called His disciples to GO! into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Currently at the International House of Prayer-Atlanta we are contending night and day for a great missionary thrust of believers from all nations to be sent throughout the world to preach the gospel. We too are sending teams to GO! In this spirit I joined a team of nine others from IHOP ATL to go preach the gospel, strengthen the saints, and add our voices to the global chorus of night and day prayer.
My time in Cuernavaca fue tremendo (It was amazing)! We came alongside the believers at a House of Prayer in Cuernavaca named Ven Pronto joining them daily in prayer for a Historic Breakthrough of God in Mexico. God knit our hearts together as we shared our hearts with one another, served together, and prayed together. We were also able to visit a few orphanages, and be Christ's hands and feet to the youth there. I was touched by the life of a sweet little girl named Anna (who is on the background of this blog). The Lord moved upon her in our time there, revealing His beauty to her, and her worth.

So grateful...
Godliness with Contentment is Great Gain. (I Timothy 6)
This summer has been a summer of peace, joy, and learning to rest in God.
As we enter into the fall, and I prepare to move in a few short weeks, I have been reflecting on God's goodness. It is so easy to focus on the few things we want and don't have, rather than be grateful for all God has given us. I have made up in my heart to be thankful. I am learning the secret of contentment and my heart has been overflowing! Gratitude breeds a clearer perspective, and expectation fresh hope.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. (1 Chron. 16:34)
I am especially thankful for those I have been able to connect with this summer while being home. You have taught me much about hospitality, sacrifice, brotherly love, and friendship. I really like you, and my life and ministry are enriched because you are in it! Special thanks to....
Pastor Carolyn Jordan for inviting me to come speak at her church Grimes AME.
Sherrell and David Williams for throwing me a send off!
Al Arrington for driving me from Kansas City back to the east coast.

IHOP Atlanta here we come...
This is an exciting time for me! I recently graduated from four years of ministry school this past May at the International House of Prayer University (IHOPU), in Kansas City.
After much prayer the Lord has made it clear that He is calling me to full-time ministry! He has called me specifically to the place of Intercession, Evangelism, and Discipleship. I am excited to be moving to Atlanta to serve full time as an intercessory missionary at the International House of Prayer Atlanta! Along with spending several hours a week in prayer, I will be working with our new church plant ministering to UGA-Gwinnett students. Pray for young adults lives to be rocked this semester with the truth of God's love!

Update of Inner City Prayer Ministry
Welcome Back!
Many exciting things are happening here with me at IHOP-KC, from getting ready to graduate Bible School, to being a part of a church plant among latinos, to laboring in prayer for the lost in our city and the nations of the earth.
As a vocation I am giving my life to full time ministry through intercession and acts of justice.
Today I want to highlight some videos and photos from Hope City, a prayer based ministry I've been involved in since 2009 in the inner city where the homeless, addicts, and poor can find a place of hope and function in the Body of Christ.

Extending My Hand to the Afflicted and Getting Saved
"If you extend your hand to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light shall dawn in the darkness, and your darkness shall be as noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul .." Isaiah 58: 10 - 11
Good Day to you from Kansas City! I'm back at IHOP-KC finishing my last semester in IHOPU and engaging in life as an intercessory missionary. These days I'm spending about 10 hours a week down at the prayer room in the inner city called Hope City. There I pray primarily, serve the house by playing the drums, and help wherever needed.
Recently, I have been struck with the fast that God has chosen (Isaiah 58), which is to share our bread with the hungry and not hide ourselves from our neighbors.
It happened like this: It was day three of a three-day fast here and I went down to Hope City to drum and pray. Many know with any fast, by the end you are pretty "raw." Meaning, the prop of food is gone and nothing is there but raw, or the real, you. So there I was on a Wednesday night in the inner city rubbing shoulders with people from the community. I felt uncomfortable, tired, and bothered. The novelty was gone. Why am I doing this again? I left the comforts of my little community and sheltered life to come down here on a Wednesday night for what? Nothing like fasting to show you what's really in your heart. Little compassion and a struggle to love, but a heart that deep down wants to.
For this reason PRAYER is a must. I MUST touch the heart of God in the place of prayer so that my heart can be filled with love, that I would overflow in love for those around me. Living a life of service sounds well and good, but unless I have God's love pulsing through me I have nothing to give. I don't want to give them me, because I don't love well. I want to love them with the God-kind of love which knows no bounds (isn't easily bothered, is kind, etc). For this reason I must pray.
The First Commandment (loving God with all your heart, mind, and soul) naturally leads itself to the Second Commandment (loving your neighbor). I cannot love apart from God's help.
God would have that we would not close our hearts to the needs of those around us. He's saving me again and again in the place of laying my life down. Let's lay down our lives together, because really deep down no one wants to just live unto themselves. What a wasted life!

My preach: A Cry for His Presence
A few weeks back, I and the two other IHOPU students serving here at the International House of Prayer Atlanta were asked to preach the two Sunday services. It was a blast! I absolutely love the community here, and was grateful for the opportunity extended to teach.

We are now rounding out our last days serving here as "externs" at IHOP Atlanta. The "externship" is a new one semester program set up for fourth-year IHOPU students to serve "externally" at another house of prayer. We are indebted to this house of prayer for teaching us what it looks like to love well, both God and people. We are now rounding out our last days serving here as "externs" at IHOP Atlanta. The "externship" is a new one semester program set up for fourth-year IHOPU students to serve "externally" at another house of prayer. THE CALL DETROIT
I was able to join over 27,000 intercessors this past weekend at "The Call Detroit" which was a 24 hour "shut-in" at Ford Field of prayer and fasting for the city of Detroit and for our nation. We went daring to believe that God could turn around a city that many have forsaken.
It was a powerful time.

Intercession Monday morning
So my last post was a "mock" worship with the word prayer set over the life of Barnabas for a class presentation.
This post is an actual prayer set here at IHOP-Atlanta. I lead the 10am intercession meeting every Monday. You can get somewhat of an idea of what the prayer room looks like and what it is I do.
In this prayer time I was praying for two things. 1. "GBF" which stands for Global Bridegroom Fast. The first Mon-Wed of every month IHOP-Atlanta, IHOP-Kansas City, and believers across the nations set apart to fast because of longing for the Bridegroom (Jesus), or to receive a longing for the Bridegroom. 2. I prayed for "The Call Detroit," a 24/7 prayer vigil this weekend on 11-11-11. I prayed that God would raise up youth that are consumed with the surpassing value of Christ, and are ministers of reconciliation/justice.

Life of an Apostle: Barnabas
Week Three here at IHOP-ATLANTA (http://www.ihop-atlanta.com/) and I am loving it!
My vision for the house of prayer is being greatly strengthened, I am growing in my leadership gifting, and falling in love with those I'm running with more and more. It is truly a privilege to give my life to night and day worship and prayer to the only One worthy of it, Jesus Christ. Sometimes I think about how 24/7 worship and prayer could be viewed as too much, excessive, or too radical, except for the fact that Jesus alone is worthy of it. It is the only reasonable response to His Beauty and Worth. That is how it happens in the Throne Room of heaven, day and night they do not cease to praise Him. God is raising up a generation of lovesick warriors and worshippers who will sit at Christ's feet like Mary of Bethany, hearing His word and beholding his beauty, and this part will not be taken from them (Luke 10:42). His Beauty necessitates a response.
I am in my last year of ministry school at IHOPU (International House of Prayer University). I am continuing to take classes though here in Atlanta for a semester through the e-school. Monday we had to turn in a group project concerning the life of an apostle in the early church. My group chose Barnabas. Thought I would share it with you as well. Let me know what you think!
To better explain the video, the first is a "worship with the Word" experience around the life of Barnabas. I chose 5 different scenes in his life that we spontaneously sang around, in an antiphonal style. It is supposed to be humorous, but also truthful regarding snippets of this powerful apostle's life. The second video is a brief oral presentation concerning some of Barnabas' journey in ministry.

Surprise!!
Today I was surprised...
I was surprised with a package from my sister! I happened to be gazing out the window when I see the postman walking to the door with a box. I open the door and grab it from him. Lo and behold, it was for me! From my sister. Puzzled and excited (it wasn't my birthday, or any special occasion) I open it and am filled with joy, excitement, and glee as I read the card and slowly go through every goodie inside the box! I couldn't stop smiling, filled with joy and excitement down to discovering the last item. I love surprises! I always feel like God set me up.
Can you imagine Him (humor me) saying this morning as I awoke and prepared for the day: "Today's the day!..She has no idea!..(to the angel) Michael shhh...I've got to see this!" He's sitting on the edge of His throne...elated with excitement, bubbling. He thought the whole thing up! There I am sitting and reading on the couch, not a clue. The one morning I happen to be home, and by the door...here comes the mail man...Can you imagine the excitement in God's heart as everything is unfolding? I can! God totally loves to surprise us, to show up in the big and small things. He's cheering us on, in the small things holding our hands and celebrating our small victories and the big breakthroughs. He's celebrating my sister and filled her with joy and love as she put the package together. He's been delighting in me, in both the big and small and He just loves...loves to reveal who He is to us.
Wherever you are...whether working through areas of offense in your heart, in a seemingly dry spell, feeling distant from God, wherever and whatever it doesn't matter...God's inviting you to know Him. He's not far. You can have as much of God as you so desire: Open your Bible, sing to Him, pour out your heart and ask for Him to open your eyes to who He is. He will. I love the God of surprises!

The God who waits...
God wants to hear our voices.
When was the last time He heard your voice in the secret place? He longs to hear our voices.
Isa. 30:18-19-"..the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you...He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry; When He hears it, He will answer you."
The Lord says He wants to be gracious to you, but He waits for the sound of your cry. He's not in a hurry. God actually waits for something. It's your voice. And when He hears it, Isaiah 30 says, then He will answer you. God starves us out of our prayerlessness by withholding things until we ask Him, because He wants interaction with our hearts. Too busy to pray? He'll wait (and so will you). There is so much more (revelation, wisdom, understanding, direction, provision, relational/emotional/physical healing, etc) God has for you...but He WILL NOT RELEASE IT until He hears from you.
Phil 4:6-7-Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer...let your requests be made known to God...
God is waiting to be gracious to you, and He will wait until He hears your cry. Its your voice that He is longing to hear, and no one can raise your voice but you. This is about relationship; It's about intimacy with God. Often I have found myself worrying about something, over thinking it, calculating it, talking to friends about it (losing time and energy)...but have I made it known to God? How much sleep have you lost worrying about something? Quit your fretting and make your requests known to God. Get known in heaven. Persistent, believing prayer changes things. Does God know you (Matt 7:21-13)?
He's longing to hear your voice. Will you lift up? He's waiting.

The Fear of the Lord

As we enter into this Lenten season, this is a timely word. The Bible says the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. John speaks about how the Lord appeared to him, and the result is the fear of the Lord. Watch:

Bible Marathon, Discipleship, and trip home
Last weekend I was privileged to join something I had never done before. As a 3rd and 4th year class at IHOPU we took up the opportunity to read the Bible from cover to cover nonstop (morning and night) in 72 hours. It was amazing! We actually ended a few hours early (more time was given for Psalms then needed). As a class we started 6pm Thursday night and went around the clock reading just the Bible, ending Sunday afternoon around 2pm. There was a public reader reading on a microphone, while the rest in the room followed along. Every ten minutes the reader switched, with two microphone's being set up, so as one ended a sentence the other began so as to have no interruptions.
Needless to say from this experience I have fallen in love again with the Living Word of God. I felt so washed. I would go in the room, and all the traffic and noise in my soul would cease. My inner man came into alignment with the Word, and I began receiving insight and revelation in the Word (and even into my heart). The Word of God can calm the storms within, and bring clarity where there was confusion. We know that it is the Word put into action that is most powerful and liberating (not just head knowledge). Nonetheless, most of us today suffer from Bible-illiteracy (lack of knowing the Bible) so this was very helpful. If any of you are reading this and getting ideas of possibly wanting to do a public Bible reading (at your church, a home group, on your campus, etc) let me know and I can give some helpful advice.
I would have to say my favorite aspect of ministry school so far has been the discipleship component. I am being discipled (meaning, to teach or train) by leaders, and am discipling (teaching/training) others to become more like Christ. The best way to learn how to pray is to actually pray (not just think in your head), and the best way to grow in leading others is to actually lead. I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to lead others closer to Christ. Proverbs 11:25- A generous man will prospoer; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
